Child's birthday card using the z fold technique

3 childs birthday card pic

Number 3 in my Zoom class we made this z fold card. Love this Z fold technique. All the ladies who made it did a fantastic job and all were different. The Sentiments are from Bonanza Buddies which is retiring. Its a great set for kids cards! Some of the DSP I used are some retired papers but just loved all the bright colours.

SUPPLIES
1. Coloured cardstock for your base card measuring 10.5 x 29.7 (This is exactly half of an A4 sheet of card stock.
2. Coloured cardstock same as base 3.5cms x 29.7cm (us the leftover cardstock from the A4 cardstock used for the card base)
3. White cardstock 2 @ 10cms x 6.9cm and 1 @ 14.3 x 10cms
4. 1 piece of scrap white cardstock approximately 6 x 7cms (to stamp your sentiment)
5. DSP (patterned paper) strips 2 at 3 x 6.9 and 1 @ 3 x 14.3
6. Various co-ordinating DSP and/or cardstock to cut balloons, hearts or kite shapes from
7. Scrap piece of paper to make a cloud stencil approximately 14 x 6cms
8. Sentiment stamp and inside wording stamp
9. Punches for decorations ie balloons, (you can use a circle punch if you wish if you don't have a balloon punch), hearts or kites.
10. If you have window sheets (clear stiff plastic) you will need one or two strips of this approximately 5cms x 1cm. Optional.
11. Two co-ordinating ink pads for sentiments and sponging
12. Light blue ink pad
13. Sponge daubers for sponging (a piece of sponge of any sort will do)
14. Dimensionals (foam dots)
15. Glue
16. Green stamp pad and grass stamp but if you don't have these just a green pen to draw some grass (optional)
METHOD:
1. Fold your card base measuring 10.5 x 29.7 in half then fold one half in half again back onto itself. The dotted lines are the folded lines (or scoring lines if you prefer) For now put your card base aside

2. Take your two pieces of white cardstock measuring 10 x 6.9cms and sponge around the outside of each piece. It is optional if you have a dot stamp you can dot the background using your dot stamp or you can just flick ink refill and with your paint brush or aqua painter.
3. Taking your scrap piece of paper to make the clouds, punch some circular edge sections out along the long side randomly.
4. Now take the piece of white cardstock measuring14.3 x 10cms. Using your light blue ink pad and sponge dauber or sponge, lay your cloud template at various angles and sponge blue clouds. Ensure the clouds are at different angles and are darker at the top and lighter towards the bottom. Do not do the clouds all the way to the bottom but to at least 3/4 of the way down the cardstock.
5. Using your green pen or your green ink pad and grass stamp, stamp some grass along the bottom section of this same piece of cardstock. It can be long and short and at various heights.
6. You can now stamp your sentiment on your scrap piece of white cardstock and I have used two different ink pads to ROCK N ROLL the sentiment - a fun technique to add two colours to your stamping. Now punch or cut out your sentiment and sponge around the edges. This can then be adhered to the top section of a piece of the white cardstock that has had the edges sponged.
7. For the next piece of white cardstock that has had its edges sponged, do the same ROCK N ROLL technique if you wish to insert a sentiment on the inside of the card. NOTE: If you have an inside sentiment ensure it is stamped towards the top of the cardstock so the balloons don't block it out.
8. Now punch out your decorations, balloons, hearts, kites or whatever you wish to decorate your card with. I used 8 balloons but this will vary depending on your decorations.
9. Attach your white cardstock pieces to your card base, ie Happy Birthday on first section, inside sentiment on middle section and large piece with the clouds sponged on in the large section.
10. Now attach the co-ordinating DSP or patterned paper to your long strip of cardstock. Do not adhere to the card base yet. NOTE there are 3 pieces of DSP (pattern paper) and one long piece ensure you adhere to the correct piece and up the correct way. It may be worth testing before gluing!!!
11. Line up where you want everything to go open and close the card to ensure placement is correct and then go ahead and glue all decorations in place. If you are using the window sheets, attach your balloons to one end and a glue dot to the other. (See me demo).
Now your card is complete and will fold up and fit in a normal sized envelope.

Hope you had fun!!!
